PONT - linking RCT with Mbale, Uganda

PONT is a community to community link between Rhondda Cynon Taf in South Wales and a district in Uganda called Mbale.

Here is a summary of our activities to date:

Primary Health Care.medical

Trained 60 Operational Level Health workers (in 3 NGO’s)

Trained 450 Community Health Promoters (in 5 NGO’s).

All Health workers integrated with 3 District Directors of Health.

About 10,000 mosquito nets distributed and followed up.

Secondary Health carehospital

Training programmes conducted at District Hospital.

Endoscopy unit installed.

Mechanical engineering workshop exported and being set up.

Funds raised to supply a community with a new water supply.

Equipment repaired at district hospital.

Orphan support.child

600 goats distributed to needy families.

Capacity built in 5 NGO’s to manage goat breeding.

56 schools directly twinned in both communities.

Plans for tree planting in school yards

Plans for agricultural improvement plots on school grounds.

Plans for computers and Solar power sources.

Microfinance scheme under way.

Wedding dress rental shop established.

Regular sales of African craft at PONT functions.

Retail outlet sales under progress.

Met with Vice President Bukenya and Minister for Health.

European twinning covenant signed by Mayor at Strasbourg.

Funds being raised to establish an ambulance service using motorbike ambulances.

Training programme in emergency response delivered in Mbale by Welsh paramedics.

Working with the ambulance team to deliver emergency response to road traffic accidents in Mbale.

About £140K raised in last 3 years.
