15 Challenge raises funds for Education
Did you know that PONT is 15 years old this year? To celebrate, some PONT volunteers took on challenges with a ‘15’ theme to raise funds for Education projects for children and young people in Mbale. Between them they raised a whopping £1033!
Together they helped make sure that our team in Uganda can continue to support and visit schools all over the Mbale region and organise training of Ugandan teachers so that can do their best for all their pupils including children with special needs.
Anne has visited Mbale with PONT and has been involved with fundraising ever since. For this ’15 Challenge’ she challenged herself to learn 5 words of Welsh every day for 15 days.
Friends and family could nominate the 5 words if they sponsored her at least £5. She said the hardest word for her to learn was ‘llyfrgell’ (library) and her favourite word was ‘oi’ (egg)!
Phil and Kath
Phil and Kath Rickards are the education officers of PONT and have helped set up over 100 school partnerships between schools in Wales and the Mbale region of Uganda – they’ve been involved right from the start of PONT’s history!
Over the past 15 years they have visited Mbale regularly and each time come back more determined than ever to make a difference. They have seen how the standard of education has improved as a result of the interventions of PONT School Partnerships.
This year, Phil & Kath decided to walk to 15 local “PONT schools” (schools that have a link with a school in Uganda) in 3 days taking a photo outside each one and walk 150 miles each during the month of June:
