PONT seeks volunteers

PONT is looking for more volunteers!

We want to reach more people in Uganda through our life-changing projects. So we’re particularly looking for people who can help us out with tasks that will help us raise more money!

We’re looking for people who are good at writing, have design or video skills, are good with social media or want to help out with admin tasks.

We’re also looking for friendly folk to come and help out at our events – or get a group of people together and organise their own fundraising event.

The new Volunteer section of our website gives suggestions of roles we are actively seeking people for – but if you have time to give, get in touch – we may well be able to use your skills – or teach you something new!

The way to start is to contact volunteer manager Melanie on 07786 996399 or [email protected] , have a chat and see where you might fit!

Volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people, get career experience or just feel like you’re doing something worthwhile, whether you’re a student, retired, or looking for work and can make a regular commitment  – or you work or care for family and just have an hour or two to spare from time to time. Roles can be as big or small as you want and you can either work alongside other people or work from home in your spare time.

I enjoy the companionship of people I would never have met otherwise, and highly value their friendship. I give my time because I want to make a difference to the lives of people in Mbale but also to enrich the education of people here in Wales. Fundraising has given me the opportunity to fulfil ‘bucket list’ activities to raise money – I’ve done a Bungee jump and Sky Dive and I’m just about to take on a sponsored Zip Wire challenge! I may never have done these otherwise.

All of the people involved with PONT are committed to improve the lives of others. My involvement has enhanced my life. I don’t know how many hours I spend a month doing PONT work, it depends what is going on, but there is no doubt it is never far from my thoughts.”

PONT Volunteer Judith Richards is part of a team that organises fundraising events for Livelihoods projects, and she also visits schools across Rhondda Cynon Taf.

PONT was grateful to recently receive funding from the Welsh Government’s Wales For Africa scheme to engage a part-time volunteer manager for one year to support volunteers and encourage more people to get involved.

This will not only make a difference to PONT and our partners in Uganda, but also make a difference to our local communities in Rhondda Cynon Taf by helping more people to volunteer.

Melanie Hutt is now the volunteer manager, and says “I’ve volunteered for different charities myself at different times in my life – when I was a student looking for experience, when I was out of work, when I was really busy working but found something that mattered to me and just made time for it… I’ve always got so much out of volunteering, and always met lovely people.

PONT is a really special local charity that has been part of the community in Rhondda Cynon Taf for nearly 15 years. Having seen all PONT’s projects in Uganda for myself, I know that any time or skills you can give will make a real difference to people’s lives. I’d love to hear from anyone who wants to join us or just find out a bit more!”  Contact Melanie on [email protected] or 07786 996399
